WellSpring Course Descriptions
Humanities Our Humanities curriculum is devoted to the world stories, ideas, and writings that help us think critically and creatively about the world. We focus on selected world cultures: their histories, social and political structures, and relevant current events. Students learn sociology, philosophy, psychology, political ecology, and anthropology through the study of world religions, customs, arts, and lifestyles. Special study of minority and women’s issues, and youth cultures. Specific courses focus on U.S. History, Citizenship and Northwest History.
Language Arts Our Language Arts program instills a love of written and verbal expression. Students read literary and historical works, editorials, poetry, myths, short stories, & essays. Viewpoints are expressed through creative writings, poetry, journalism, & research reports. Spelling, grammar, and syntax are essential to student progress.
Science Ecology, Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Physics, Nutrition, Health Our science courses are project-based and relate to issues of environmental, community, and personal well-being. Outdoor field studies, educational travel journeys, and service-learning enhance our studies. Students study local eco-systems, habitats, and energy cycles in wetlands, lakes, forests, rivers, & bays.

Mathematics Arithmetic through Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus. Architectural Design, Computer Technology, Math Applications Classes are small and geared to the student’s level of accomplishment and rate of progress.
The Arts Our Arts program is crucial to the WellSpring curriculum. Art history, social science, language arts, and the sciences are all enhanced by the spirit of art. Visual Arts /Studio Arts For students at all levels of artistic expression. Drawing, painting, sculpture, printing, beading, cooking, sewing and handcrafts. Expressive Arts Students participate in improvisational classes, mask and costume making, stage set design, and theater performance. Multi-media productions, radio broadcasting, music, song, poetry.
Physical Education, Outdoor Education Whenever possible, we consider the practical applications of knowledge. Outdoor education, weekly field studies, and travel adventures are an integral part of our learning curriculum. Leadership games, hiking, sports, yoga, snowboarding, etc.
